Mr. Clegg Lee Joines of 1204 Debbie Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at his residence after one year of declining health and four weeks of serious illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at North Kannapolis Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Dunn and Rev. Marcus Starnes will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mr. Joines was born August 16, 1923 in Wilkes County, NC. He was a son of the late James Thomas Joines and Annie Mae Childers Joines. He retired from Cannon Mills in 1986 after 40 years of service in the #6 Slasher Room of Plant 1 in Kannapolis. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in Ardennes (a.k.a Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland Campaign, Normandy, and Northern France. He was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Joines is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Virginia Joines; one daughter, Rhoda J. Carter, and her husband, Charles, of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Michael and Patrick Carter; three beloved dogs, Precious, Beau, and Prince. Memorials may be sent to North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081, or to Hospice of Cabarrus County, P.O. Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026-1235.
