Dora Belle Britt Hilton, age 89, entered into her eternal home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Chris Shelton will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
She was born in Richmond County, NC on Aug 25, 1925 to Mary Elizabeth (Whitley) and Allen Emerson Britt. She moved to Kannapolis at age 15 and lived there until her death.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Bim D. Hilton, and her siblings, Ada (Henry), Pearlie (Roy), Nancy, Nora, Wilfred, Alfred, Andy (Hazel), and Robert (Maxine).
Dora was devoted to her family, her church and her community. She was a homemaker and parertnered with her husband to run the family business. She was very active in West Point Baptist Church, where she was a member 73 years. She served there as a Sunday school teacher, leader of GA's, helped Bim with RA's, coordinated meals, and worked with WMU and senior groups.
She was a hairdresser and this talent was another way she was a service to her neighbors and especially the elderly. We will all remember her talent as a seamstress and quilter as well as her being an exceptional cook.
She is survived by five children, James (Linda) of Wingate, Gerald (Sandra) of Kannapolis, Gwin (Sally) of Gastonia, Delores Evans (Jeff) of Kinston, and Deana (Nickolas) of the home.
She has twelve grandchildren, Chris Hilton (Kin) of Virginia, Britt Hilton of Clemmons, NC, Jamie Shepherd (David) of Charlotte, NC, Susie Hilton of Virginia, Tim Hilton (Suzanne) of Kannapolis, Kurt Hilton (Sheena) of Cary, NC, Kelly Vanderburg (Micka) of Concord, Daniel and Jonathan Hilton of Gastonia, Brad Evans (Cooper) of Cary, Devin Rogers of Kannapolis and Alexia Millon of the home.
Her fourteen great-grandchildren are Alexander, Anna Catherine and Atkinson of Virginia, Andrew Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Hannah and Luke Sheperd of Charlotte, NC, Walker and Anna-Claire Hilton of Kannapolis, NC Asher and Ellis Vanderburg of Concord, Davis and Grant Hilton of Cary, and Camden and Aldyn Evans of Cary.
Dora had one surviving sister-in-law and best friend Harriett Britt of Salisbury, NC.
She was loved and appreciated by many nieces and nephews as well as by Bobbie and Junior Hampton and their three girls, Jenna, Katelyn, Karlee who are considered a part of the family.
The family requests in lieu of flowers the memorials be made to the building fund or the Handy-Man ministry of West Point Baptist Church, 1100 Pine Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
