Evelyn Benfield Mclain

Evelyn Benfield McLain, 77, died peacefully on July 18, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 3, 1930 in York, S.C., daughter of the late Guy and Elner Nivens Benfield. Mrs. McLain was a 1948 graduate of J.W. Cannon High School. She was Vice President of American Display, Inc. until her retirement in 1984. She was also part owner of Mac Lain Electric Inc. Mrs. McLain was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. McLain had a great love of people and baking. She was "Grandma" to all who knew her. Evelyn despised shopping, but enjoyed talking to people. She never met a stranger. Mrs. McLain often baked goodies for friends and businesses around town. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Fred McLain; and two half-brothers, Eugene and Charles Benfield. She is survived by her two children, Don McLain and fianc e Deborah, and Pam McLain, all of Concord; her two grandchildren, Donna McLain and Sean McLain, also of Concord; and a half-sister, Lorene Wynens. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at Bethlehem Baptist Church. The Rev. Edward Pigg will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis.
