Flora Catherine McDougal

March 27, 1933 - February 18, 2022

Ms. Flora Catherine McDougal, 88, peacefully passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at Accordius Health of Concord, NC. In place of a big formal funeral instead there will be a few small local "Celebrations of Life". Her final resting place will eventually be in Massapequa, NY along side her son, Fred Braun. Flora McDougal was born March 27, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. She was a daughter of the late Raymond McDougal and Ella Lane McDougal. While raising 3 children in Queens, Flora worked for many years in the restaurant business including at Shea Stadium's Diamond Club during Met and Jet games. In 2005 she moved to NC with her daughter's family and started a small childcare business. In 2010 she eventually retired and moved into Brookdale Assisted Living. Her favorite activities at Brookdale were playing Bingo and Jeopardy followed by going out to eat with the family. She also loved playing slots...her 2 favorite places to visit were Atlantic City and Harrahs Cherokee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Fred Braun; and brothers Thomas, Raymond and William. Flora is survived by two daughters, Linda Braun Doherty (and husband Jim) of Concord, NC and Evelyn Genetempo of Long Island, NY; two sisters, Marion Magill and Ella Kadoche; two brothers, Donald McDougal and Patrick McDougal; and numerous nieces and nephews who she cherished deeply. Her absolute pride and joy were her two grandchildren, Caitlin Doherty and Danny Doherty who she helped raise. Because the family is spread out over multiple states the various "Celebrations of Life" will be shared online for all to experience. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who knew and loved Flora McDougal as we remember her legacy.
