Michael Allan Mcvay

Mr. Michael Allan McVay, 58, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at his home in Landis.

A funeral service is scheduled for 4:00 pm Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:45 pm Saturday at the church.

Michael was born February 19, 1963 in Rochester, MN. He was a son of Gerald Wesley McVay of Asheville and the late Linda Ilaine Turner McVay. Michael was a public servant his entire life. He started his career as a police officer and then moved into firefighting. He saw the worst of the worst, risked his life for others, and saved untold lives as a first responder. He was also a teacher who taught others who chose similar paths.

Mike recently retired from the Kannapolis Fire Department, where he was a Senior Engineer at Station 5. Since his retirement, he has been a part-time member of Enochville Fire Department. Prior to coming to Kannapolis, he worked for Kannapolis Police, Landis Fire and Salisbury Fire.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sherry Meacham McVay; two sons, Wesley McVay (Chelsea) and Corey McVay (Sarah), all of Mt. Ulla; sister, Sharon O'Brien (Michael) of Asheville; two brothers, Robert "Bob" McVay (Sandy) and David McVay (Crystal), all of Kannapolis; five step-children; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Kannapolis Firefighters Assistance Foundation, PO Box 706, Kannapolis, NC 28082.
