Alan Lee Staton, 66, of China Grove died July 27, 2026.
Born Sept. 27, 1959, he was the son of the late James L. “Jim” and Frances Poole Staton. He was a graduate of South Rowan High School and Rowan Technical College.
A gifted woodworker, Alan retired in January from Lewtak Organ Builders in Mocksville. In May, he was proud to complete a section of the Camino de Santiago in Spain with his best friend, John Stirewalt. The week he returned home, he traveled to Chicago with his family to see his older son ordained as a pastor in the ELCA.
Alan was an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 301, Mount Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Honeycutt “Libby” Staton, whom he married Nov. 10, 1994; two sons, the Rev. Alex Winfield Linn (Alex Biasella) and James Houston Staton, and a sister, Lee Ann Staton Freeze. Another sister, Anne Clara Staton, preceded him in death.
He is also survived by Libby’s family, Hugh Honeycutt (Evelyn), and Melissa Kessler (Robert). A sister-in-law, Anne Honeycutt, also preceded him in death.
A gathering in Alan’s memory will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 26, in the Son Court of Mount Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove.
