Mr. Alfred "Sonny" Ray Cody, 91, was reunited with his beloved wife (on her birthday) and meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Morningside of Concord.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, September 15, 2025, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jimmy Barnhill will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm Monday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Sonny was born May 27, 1934 in Kannapolis. He was the son of the late John Zachary Cody and Hattie Virginia DeMarcus Cody. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years. He served during the Korean War in Japan (1952-1955), Korea (1961-1962 & 1968-1969), and during the Vietnam War retiring while stationed at Shaw Air Force Base. He later worked for Johnson Motor Lines (1972-1977) and would retire from Consolidated Freightways (1978-1998) after 20 years as a truck driver. Sonny was a car enthusiast. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to car shows and was a member of the East Coast Cruisers.
He was preceded in death by wife of 64 years, Carolyn Gray Self Cody; and sister, Selma Lee Cody Pethel.
Sonny is survived by his daughter, Jenny C. Woods and husband Steve of Kannapolis; grandson, Jesse Bullard of Kannapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
