Anne Fields Rouse

June 14, 1923 — December 11, 2008

Anne Fields Rouse, formerly of Greensboro and Wilmington, passed away in Concord, on Dec. 11, 2008. Viewing is planned for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in the chapel at Community Funeral Home in Rose Hill, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Anne will be buried at the Fussell Family Cemetery beside her husband, Durwood E. "Woody" Rouse. Born June 14, 1923, in Carthage, Anne was the middle child of Paul H. Fields Sr. and Anna Morris Fields, who along with Anne's brothers, Paul Jr. and Joseph, preceded her in death. The daughter of a Methodist minister, Anne lived in many different towns across North Carolina before coming to Rose Hill. There she graduated high school and met Rose Hill native Durwood Rouse, whom she married in Southport in 1947. Anne earned her college degree in education and religion at Greensboro College, and went on to become the beloved teacher of hundreds of primary school children in Alaska, Danville and Greensboro in the 1940s and 1950s. Anne was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Greensboro and Wilmington, and a soloist in the choir for decades. She had the most beautiful lyric soprano voice and instilled in her daughters a lifelong love of music. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched, and particularly by her family and the staff at Universal Healthcare in Concord, who cared for Anne as her health declined. To celebrate her life and mourn her passing, Anne leaves her three daughters, JoAnne D'Urso of Reno, Nev., Jeanne Rouse of Greensboro and Janet Powell and her husband, Charles, of Concord; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Memorials may be made to the Fussell Family Cemetery Fund, 520 E. Murphy St., Wallace, NC 28466 or the charity of the donor's choice.
