Ms. Bechtel was born November 5, 1946 in Charlotte. She was a daughter of the late Henry Ballard and Barbara Courtney Ballard. Barbara was a former billing supervisor for Kodak Corporation for 18 years. After her retirement, she came to Kannapolis to help care for her aging mother. Barbara was a lover of people. Barbara spent the last two years of her life at the Brian Center of Kannapolis/Concord and made many friends there. She cherished the friendship and the conversation of each and every one.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tommie Ballard.
Ms. Bechtel is survived by her son, Richard Ballard and fiancée Lisa Woodward; grandson, Brandon Ballard; sister, Betty Riddle-Marlowe and fiancé, Eric Chubbuck; nephew, Scott Riddle; and great-niece, Kelsey Riddle.
