Barbara Ann Vaccaro Markantonakis

Mrs. Barbara Anne “Yaya” Vaccaro Markantonakis, 76, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Barbara was born June 2, 1940 in Syracuse, NY. She was a daughter of the late Dominic Vaccaro and Agnes Morales Vaccaro. She retired as a case worker for Onondaga Community College. Barbara was known for her service to her community in her work through social services at Jobs Plus. She always showed a perseverance and sacrifice for others throughout her life.

Yaya, as she was known, had an unwavering commitment and love for her family. She loved being surrounded by family, food and friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vasilios Markantonakis; and a son, Angelo Vartholomio.

Barbara is survived by two sons, Angelo Markantonakis and wife Susan of Kannapolis, NC and Charles “Chuck” Laws and wife Lucille of Victory, NY; two daughters, Christina Stasko and husband John of Mattydale, NY and Andrea Laws of North Syracuse, NY; two brothers, Sam Vaccaro of Kissimmee, FL and Richard Vaccaro of Syracuse, NY; two sisters, Diane Latessa Czolowski of Constantia, NY and Donna Vaccaro-Pollins of Tallahassee, FL; 12 grandchildren, Cassandra Laws, Anastasia Laws, Charles Laws, Kendra Gmyr, Maggie Stasko, Zachary Stasko, Audrey Stasko, Joey Copani, Mikey Copani, Corey Copani, Angelo V. Markantonakis and Dominic Markantonakis; and two great grandchildren, Kadence Collett and Hunter Gmyr.
