Mrs. Bertha Styles Richards, 98, of Kannapolis, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017, surrounded by family at Tucker Hospice House.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Walt Lyman will officiate. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Richards was born April 12, 1919 in Blairsville, GA. She was a daughter of the late Isaac Alma Styles and Emma Hice Styles. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She was artistic and creative and enjoyed sewing, reading the Bible and non-fiction books, working crossword puzzles, bird watching, star gazing, and seeing beautiful sunsets. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years James “Jim” Ladson Richards, Sr. on Sunday, February 3, 2013; sisters, Alma L. Styles, Stella M. Styles and Ruby S. Howell. Mrs. Richards was six years old when her mother died, but she had two loving adopted mamas, and they were the late Mrs. Bonnie (Edward) Brooks and the late Mrs. Ethel (James) Moore.
Mrs. Richards is survived by daughter, Barbara J. Richards; son, James Ladson “Laddie” Richards, Jr. and wife Malinda; stepchildren, Brittany, Hannah and Olivia; and special nieces and nephews.
