Bettie Johnson Armstrong

Mrs. Bettie Johnson Armstrong, a resident of Jonnie's Home for the Retired, Harrisburg and formerly of Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. The Rev. Stan Welch will officiate. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Carolina Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Born in Alexander County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clinton Johnson and Fannie Sipe Johnson. Educated in the Alexander County schools, she retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills. She was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class, past member of the choir, and former Training Union and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and an Avon representative for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Maude Johnson Harrington, Nellie Johnson Murph, Albert Johnson and Mary Johnson Pressley. Survivors include her sister, Sadie Johnson Perry of Flagler Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Lorene Johnson of Newton; caregiver, Joyce Messer of Concord; a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends. Memorials may be sent to Blackwelder Park Baptist Church, 2204 Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
