Betty Brown Abernathy Laidlaw

Mrs. Betty Brown Abernathy Laidlaw, 84, of Sparta and formerly of Kannapolis, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Alleghany Care and Rehabilitation Center in Sparta. Services may be scheduled at a later date. Mrs. Laidlaw was born June 11, 1927 in Taylorsville. She was the daughter of the late Junious Brown and Bernice Poplin Brown. She was school teacher in the Kannapolis City School system for over 35 years working at Jackson Park and Shady Brook Schools. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Paul Abernathy and James Laidlaw and daughter, Susan A. Barringer. Mrs. Laidlaw is survived by daughter, Jane Lee of Sparta; son, John Abernathy of Kannapolis; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
