Miss Betty Jean Shinn, 81, of Long Avenue went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2012 at her home.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kevin Whidden will officiate. A private burial will follow.
Friends will be received from 2 to 3:00 pm Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home prior to the service.
Born on June 26, 1930 in Union County, Betty was the daughter of the late Waldo F. Shinn and Beulah Estelle Duckett Shinn. She was employed at RVO and had formerly worked at Cabarrus Workshop. Betty lived at Cabarrus County Group Homes since 1982. She greatly enjoyed singing, taking care of her baby dolls, coloring and sharing her strong faith in Jesus with those she loved. A special thanks to her caregivers Gail Buiwe, Patrice Moore, Pecola Davis, Shemika Deese, Ginger Pope, Crissie Patterson, Margie White, Charlie Noles, and others to numerous to mention, as well as those she lived with who supported, loved and cared for Betty during her time of illness.
Betty is survived by her family at Cabarrus County Group Homes. Additional survivors are her half brothers and sisters, Sylvia Stancil, Darlene Thomas, Terra Moon, Reba Bryan, Don Shinn, Wayne Shinn, Mike Shinn and Malcolm Shinn.
Memorials may be made to the Betty Shinn Memorial Foundation at Cabarrus County Group Homes, Inc., 288 Aviation Drive, China Grove, NC 28023.
