Retired Lt. Bobby "Frank" Ballard, Jr., a loving and devoted father, son, and grandfather, age 66, passed away at his home Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 2:00 pm at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel with honors presented by the Kannapolis Police Department Honor Guard. The Rev. Mike Hubbard will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 to 1:45 pm prior to the service .
Mr. Ballard was born in Cabarrus County, a son of Betty "Jerry" Powell McClary and the late Robert A. McClary. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Ballard; and a brother, Mark McClary.
Mr. Ballard was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and went on to get his degree in criminal justice. He dedicated his life to his service with the Kannapolis Police Department, where he worked for over 30 years. For many years, he worked as a lieutenant over the criminal justice division and was also a sniper with the SWAT team. He also enjoyed the outdoors, where he spent time hunting, fishing and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Frank also loved taking his classic cars to local car shows where he spent time with his friends.
Survivors of Mr. Ballard include two daughters, Brandi Ballard Smith and husband husband James of Liberty, NC and Natalie Ballard Tipton and husband Brandon of Kannapolis; his mother, Betty "Jerry" McClary of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Isabelle, Owen and Aubree Smith and Isaac Tipton; a brother, Bobby McClary of Sunset Beach, and a sister, Candace Eddleman and husband Chris of Ryebrook, NY.
