Rev. Goodman was born September 30, 1935 in Rowan County. He was a son of the late Issac McNary Goodman and Bertie Miller Goodman Freeman. He worked at Cannon Mills Plant One, Weave Room #7 prior to graduating from Fruitland Baptist Bible College. He did Pastoral Care & Counseling at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, and was Pastor of various churches in Georgia and North Carolina. Him and his wife continued their life's mission and had a very special place for every child at the Jennifer Brown Children's Emergency Care for boys in Shallote and the Emergency Care Baptist Home for girls in Charlotte. He then worked for Cabarrus Group Homes in Concord until he retired in 1970. Rev. Goodman then continued his life's mission every Sunday at Thousand Trails in Lexington and Florida. He fulfilled his remaining time by helping and ministering to individuals the past couple years at Lyon Home Improvement in Kannapolis until he no longer could. Rev. Goodman was also a lifetime Lyon Club member. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Rev. Goodman was the most loving, honest and dependable person you could ever hope to know. He helped and encouraged others to find the strength to better themselves and to inspire others to do the same. He loved freely and saw hope and goodness in everyone. His final words were, "I feel like Apostle Paul. I have fought a good fight, kept my faith. And it's okay, for I know there is a home waiting for me."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, David Goodman; his "other son", Roy Robertson; two brothers, Hubert and Carl Goodman; and sister, Dorothy Goodman.
Rev. Goodman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara Edwards Goodman; his children, Jane Rollins and Bobby Goodman, Jr.; and their "other daughter", Linda Robertson; sister, Christine Culp of Rockwell; brother, Floyd Goodman of Rockwell; grandchildren, including Will Walker and wife Lori and sons Matt and Chase, Joshua Adams Rollins and family, Jason Anthony Rollins and family, Angelica and Deena Goodman, and Aleshia Goodman and family.
