Mr. Boyce Dewitt Petty Sr., 78, of 503 Turner Street, Landis, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at his home following a number of years of declining health. The funeral will be 12 noon Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the V.A. National Cemetery in Salisbury at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Charles Carter will officiate. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Rowan Veterans Council. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home on Turner Street. Mr. Petty was born March 12, 1926, in Gastonia. He was a son of the late Charles Jefferson Petty Sr. and Gertrude Tisdale Petty. Mr. Petty was a partner with Progressive Builders in Kannapolis and served in the U.S Navy during World War II. Mr. Petty is survived by his wife, Clara Carter Petty; three daughters, Dianne P. Compton and her husband David, Tana Hyatt and her husband, Derrick, and Robyn Brown and her husband, Mike, all of Kannapolis; two sons, Buster Petty and his wife, Paula, and Steve Petty, all of Kannapolis; a sister, Jean Lear of Gastonia; a brother, Charles J. "Jay" Petty Jr. of Moss Point, Miss.; 10 grandchildren, David Compton Jr., Amy C. Nicodemus, Shohn Petty, Heath Petty, Brandi Brown, Bubba Brown, John Hyatt, Andrew Petty, Chandi Gurley and Ryan Petty; and four great-grandchildren.
