Carl Van Athey

Mr. Carl Van Athey, 78, a resident of Avante at Concord and formerly of Lane Street in Kannapolis, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Avante at Concord, following a serious illness of three weeks. A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Kannapolis Cemetery. Pastor Sean Brigman will officiate. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. Born April 11, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Athey was a son of the late John Athey and the late Mary Yost Athey. He retired several years ago from the towel packaging department of Cannon Mills Plant One. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Mr. Athey was a member of Pleasant Avenue Freewill Baptist Church. His wife, Lois Pulliam Athey, preceded him in death on September 28, 1998. Survivors include two nieces, Barbara Chapman of Davidson and Dianne Brigman of Kannapolis.
