Mrs. Carrie Weaver Compton, 83, of Patterson Avenue, Kannapolis, died Thursday, June 18, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Franklin Heights Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Grigg will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the church. At other times, they will be at the home of a son, Dennis Compton, 512 Evelyn Avenue, Kannapolis. Born July 7, 1925 in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Arlow Gaither Weaver and Jennie Lee Stack Weaver. She retired in 1987 from the washcloth department of Cannon Mills, where she was employed for more than 40 years. Mrs. Compton was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Compton; and a brother, Johnny Weaver. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Compton Safrit of Kannapolis, Deborah "Debbie" Compton Terry and husband, Ronnie, of China Grove; two sons, Robert Gail Compton of Davidson, Dennis Ray Compton and wife, Susan, of Kannapolis; two sisters, Ruby Pence and husband, Milton and Joyce Morris and husband, Bob, all of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorials may be sent to Franklin Heights Christian Academy, 526 Wright Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
