Mr. Cecil Edward Morrison, 83, of 9885 Barnette Road, died Saturday, January 26, 2008, at his residence. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church. Rev. Kurt Johnston will officiate. The body will lie in-state at the church from 1:30 - 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Gilwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Concord. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a daughter, Janice Barnes, 9741 Barnette Road, Concord. Mr. Morrison was born May 8, 1924 in Cabarrus, NC. He was the son of the late James Wilson Morrison and Mary Dewese Morrison. He was a graduate of Odell High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea. He retired from the NC Dept. of Transportation where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Elder. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with friends, listening to country music, square dancing, and hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Linker Morrison, on April 5, 1997. Mr. Morrison is survived by four daughters, Janice M. Barnes, Rebecca M. Irvin and husband Don, Gail M. Mower, all of Concord and Sue M. York and husband Darrell of Monroe; son, Cecil Eric Morrison of Concord; sister, Mary Gladys Benson and husband John of Concord; seven grandchildren, Edward A. Hunt, Darren W. Irvin, Dana Irvin Hefner, Joshua Mower, Dustin Mower, Carrie Alexander and Madison York; two great grandchildren, Kirsten Hunt and Kalie Furr; and his longtime special friend, Virginia Rollins of Kannapolis. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Robert Moser and Dr. Thomas Trahey for their loving care over the past 16 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gilwood Presbyterian Church Building Fund or The Robert Morrison Healing Fund, c/o Gilwood Presbyterian Church, 2993 Odell School Road, Concord, NC 28027.
