Mr. Charles Rudolph Goodwin died November 1, 2010 at his home. He was born June 21, 1919 and was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Goodwin. After graduating from Business College, he worked his entire life for A.E. Finley and Associates in Florida and North Carolina. He retired as the office manager of the Charlotte office. He is survived by five children, Warren Goodwin of Tallahassee, FL, Larry Goodwin of S. Beach Miami, FL, Ginger Ledford of Charlotte, Bonnie Goodwin and Glen Goodwin, both of Harrisburg; and his adopted family, Patricia Watson of Harrisburg, Krista Watson and Kim Trexler, both of China Grove; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and numerous cats and dogs. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army assigned to the War Department at Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico. He was a sharpshooter and guarded the scientists developing the atomic bomb. During his years in Florida, he enjoyed fishing and boating. He served as Commodore of the Jacksonville Gator Outboard Club and was a driver in the 10,000 mile World Record Outboard Marathon Run on the St. Johns River. In North Carolina, he held various offices in the Lion's Club, Optimist Club, Central Cabarrus Booster's Club, Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He loved dogs, stray cats, and feeding birds. In old age, he abruptly stopped hunting and announced that he hated killing anything. Interment will be private at Carolina Memorial Park in Harrisburg. The family requests no flowers.
