Charles R. Knece, Jr.

Mr. Charles Richard "Chuck" Knece, Jr., 69, of 2205 Glendale Avenue, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Military rites will be conducted by the US Navy. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence. Born August 1, 1938 in Circleville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles Richard Knece, Sr. and Rosemary Burton Knece. He retired in 1982 from the US Navy as a Master Chief. Following retirement, he worked for Dominion Yarn in Landis and Pass and Seymour Legrand in Concord. He later worked part-time for Auto Zone in Kannapolis. Mr. Knece was a member of Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989 and a past member of the PSA Shag Club. He enjoyed playing golf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Detective Richard Davis, Jr.; and his adopted father, Francis Cleveland. Survivors include his wife, Kay Mattox Knece; three daughters, Caren Bates of Kannapolis, Crystal Atwell and husband, Todd, of China Grove, and Toni Moore of Cherryville; adopted-mother, Gladys Cleveland of Kannapolis; daughter-in-law, Trudi Davis of Rockwell; 12 grandchildren, Kalei and Kegan Bates, Carrie, Harley and Liston Atwell, Felicia Mason, Tyler Gosa, Corey, Casey and Michaela Beam, Brittnay and Kayla Davis; two great-granddaughters, Skylar Bowen and Emma Goodman; and six loving nieces. The family expresses special thanks to the members of the PSA Shag Club for their support. They also thank the nurses on the Intensive Care Unit at Duke and especially, Kathy Rohrback, for the excellent and compassionate care that was given.
