Charles Earl Lumsden

January 30, 1944 — March 17, 2024

Mr. Charles "Earl" Lumsden, 80, of Kannapolis passed away peacefully although unexpectedly, at his home on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Earl, as he was known by his family and friends was a US Army veteran who served proudly in the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of Poston-Perkins Post 8989, DAV Rowan County #96, American Legion Post 115 and also a member of the NRA. Earl was an avid metal and wood craftsman, trades he learned while working in the machine shop at Cannon Mills, followed by a career at Reynolds Aluminum. His retirement was spent with family and friends but none more important than the relationship he shared with his daughter Nikki and his grandson Brayden. Earl spent many days in the car rider line at Knollwood Elementary School, arriving hours before release time so he would be first in line. Any place that Brayden wished to go after school, his "Papa" was always ready to go. Saturday lunch was a family tradition that had spanned for more than 30 years, primarily at the K&W in Kannapolis and then Concord. During and after COVID, the lunch tradition moved to the family farm where he continued to spend his Saturdays, including the one prior to his passing. His last trip was with Brayden to two of their favorite stores, Lowe’s, and Tractor Supply, before enjoying dinner with the family on Saturday night. So many of those special times will be shared over the coming weeks but will be remembered forever.

He was the son of the late Clifford and Elouise Lumsden of China Grove and predeceased by a brother Dwain Lumsden.

Earl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vickii McCurdy Lumsden; his daughter, Nichole Lumsden-Winecoff (Tracy); and his grandson; along with other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials can be made to the Kannapolis Public Safety Assistance Foundation, PO Box 706, Kannapolis, NC 28082, a nonprofit organization that supports police and firefighters in times of need.
