Charles Kevin Surner

August 2, 1957 — December 27, 2015

Charles Kevin “Tiny” Surner, age 58, told his last story on December 27, 2015.

Charles was born in 1957 in Concord, North Carolina to Miriam and Charles Oliver Surner. At age 7 he moved to Denver, Colorado with his mother. Several years later they relocated to Norcross, Georgia. He graduated from Norcross High School in 1975. A few years after graduation he was given an opportunity to work on the crew of a sports car racing team. The years spent as a crew member and mechanic for Sports Car Club of America and vintage car racing teams defined his life and left him with stories and friendships that endured until the end.

In1980 Charles returned to North Carolina and moved back into his father’s house in Concord. He took jobs as a pressman for several of the larger high volume printing companies in Charlotte.

He was an avid fan of Mister Ed, the talking horse, and The Grateful Dead band. A line from their song “Truckin” truly summarizes his life, “Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been”.

A passionate animal lover, Charles contributed to several animal charities and volunteered at animal shelters. To honor his memory, donations to the Humane Society or the ASPCA would be appreciated.
