Charles Dermont Weddington, Sr.

Mr. Charles Dermont Weddington, Sr., 65, of 8500 Smith Road, Kannapolis, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. The Rev. John Blazer and the Rev. Sam Crisp will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence and at the home of a son, Charles D. Weddington, Jr., 8050 Howard Avenue, Kannapolis. Born May 5, 1939 in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Clyde Pharr Weddington and Mary Fink Weddington. He retired from the Sewing Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One. He also worked part-time for many years at Dal's Bread and Bolts. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Corwin Alphonso Weddington; two brothers, Luther Weddington and Harry Lee Weddington; a sister, Elsie Long; and a step-son, Eric Howell. Survivors include his wife, Jan Jackson Weddington, two sons, Virgil Weddington and his wife, Gay, and Charles D. Weddington, Jr., all of Kannapolis; a daughter, Sonia Leigh and her husband, Tommy, of Kannapolis; a foster daughter, Crystal Eller of China Grove; a foster son of Jeremy Gainey and his wife, Heather, of Kannapolis; two sisters, Anna Mae Travis of Newton and Clara Chapman of Vienna, IL; two brothers, Glenn Weddington of Maiden and Paul Weddington of Kannapolis; and six grandchildren, Jeremy Weddington of Kannapolis, Angelita Norton of China Grove, Jennifer Leigh and Stefanie Leigh, of Kannapolis, Erika Eller of China Grove and Samara Gainey of Kannapolis.
