Charles Francis Wright, lovingly known at "Jerry" passed away at Atrium Health Tucker Hospice Home in Kannapolis on March 4, 2026.
He was born on August 2, 1938 and was the son of the late Joe A. Wright, Sr. and Helen Graeber Wright. He is survived by his brother, Joe A. Wright, Jr.; his sisters, Nancy W. Phipps and Wanda W. Karriker; 7 nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Landis High School and Lenoir-Rhyne College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air National Guard. Jerry worked at Keebler Cookies and Crackers as a salesperson. He also worked for Orkin.
Jerry was a life-long and devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he faithfully served on the church council and various committees. His church was an important part of his life and faith. Jerry will be remembered for his faith and dedication to family and his quiet spirit of service.Jerry was an avid saltwater fisherman whose love for the ocean began with early trips to Kure Beach. He started with casting lines from the pier, and later surf fishing along the shores of Carolina Beach. What started as a pastime grew into a lifelong passion and community. Jerry was introduced to a seasoned surf fisherman who was also a founding member of the Davis Island Fishing Foundation Cape Lookout. That introduction sparked a friendship that lasted more than 50 years and led Jerry to join the Davis Island Fishing Foundation in 1980. He served several terms on the Board of Directors. He dedicated countless hours to work trips, fishing tournaments, and club events, contributing not only his time and leadership but also his enduring enthusiasm for surf fishing and fellowship. His membership remained active, a testament to his lasting commitment to the sport and community he cherished.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Candice Carter will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 am Saturday at the church.
