Mr. Clarence Ray Long, 88, of 1113 Thomas Avenue, Kannapolis, died Sunday, October 20, 2002, at W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. Rev. Richard Rhoades and Rev. Hoke Ritchie will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Mr. Long. Mr. Long was born September 15, 1914 in Mocksville, NC. He was a son of the late William Kimbrough Long and Dora McClamroch Long. He retired several years ago from the card room of Cannon Mills, Plant Four in Kannapolis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by a son, James Ritchie Long, in September of 1997, and a sister, Gladys Enore McClamroch, in November of 1989. Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Rachael Odell Long; two sons, William Ray Long and his wife, Mary, of Hickory, Michael Long of Charlotte; two brothers, Howard Hall Long and Lucious Long, both of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Melinda Louise Long of Hickory, Heather Raye Long Wallace of Wichita, KS, Robin Long Leatherwood of Kannapolis; great grandson, William Scott Wallace of Wichita, KS.
