Everyone knew him as 'Elwood', He was really a great man. I met him 37 years ago after I came out of the Army. I got a job at Arrowood's Exxon and got to know Claude personally as a dear friend. We both stayed there after the station was sold and became Rodney's Exxon/Citgo. I have fond memories of our friendship and always thought of Claude as a dad. He used to call me every Sunday afternoon as the race was starting , to make sure I remembered to watch. I surely missed those calls after he got sick and when he went to the nursing home. I thought about him the other day as he was celebrating his 90th birthday. I always remembered the day, because my youngest son shares the same birthdate. I truly will always remember 'Elwood'... May he rest in peace.
