Mr. Claude Mitchell Harrington, 99, a resident of Five Oaks Manor and formerly of Debbie Street in Kannapolis, died Friday, October 25, 2002, at Five Oaks Manor. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2002, at North Kannapolis Baptist Church. The Revs. David Meyers, Coy Privette and Bewey Shaver will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at North Kannapolis Baptist Church. Born March 10, 1903, in Alexander County, NC, he was a son of the late Benjamin Milton Harrington and the late Sarah Jane Childers Harrington. Mr. Harrington came to Kannapolis in 1925 and became a charter member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church. He was active in the church until 1990, when ill health prevented his participation in many activities. Mr. Harrington retired at the age of 83, after 60 years of service, from the Number Six Weave Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, whom he married in 1927, Lena Pennell Harrington, on June 14, 1981; and a granddaughter, Ann Efird Faggart, on February 6, 1999. Survivors include one son, Bob R. Harrington and his wife Betty Corzine Harrington of Raleigh; and two daughters, Vivian H. Shaver and her husband, Bewey M. Shaver, of Sanford and Iris H. Efird and her husband, R. Don Efird of Kannapolis; ten grandchildren, Frieda S. Moseley; B. Melvin Shaver, Jr., Rick Efird, Lee Efird, Larry Efird, Don Efird, Jr., Jay Efird, Susan Bracken, Pamela H. Hyatt and B. Todd Harrington; and 29 great-grandchildren.
