Clyde Washington Burgess, 80, of 128 Westover Avenue, Kannapolis, died Saturday, October 8, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Weldon Key will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of a brother, J. C. Burgess, 2700 Brady Avenue, Kannapolis. Born November 20, 1924, in Union County, he was a son of the late Stanley Washington Burgess and Gracie Ann Preslar Burgess. He retired several years ago from Cannon Mills. He was of the Baptist faith and was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Aileen Rollins Burgess. Survivors include two daughters, Becky Sawyer and husband, Clyde, of Albemarle and Kathy Vinson and husband, Jesse, of Emerald Isle; two sisters, Radie Clontz of Concord and Flora Mae Martin of Wadesboro; two brothers, Boyce Burgess and J. C. Burgess, both of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Laura Lowder and husband, Michael, Wesley Sawyer and Caroline Sawyer, all of Albemarle and Jennifer Sawyer of San Diego, California; and a great-granddaughter, Haley Lowder.
