Colleen Sylvia Helms Parson

Colleen Sylvia Parson (formerly Helms), 90, went to be with Jesus on November 21, 2022 Colleen was born on September 29, 1932, in Kannapolis, North Carolina to the late Dolph and Eva Kanipe Parsons. She attended A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina; Monroe Nursing School in Monroe, North Carolina; Southeastern Beauty College in Charlotte, North Carolina; and the Evangelical School of Divinity. Colleen lived most of her life in Marshville, North Carolina; Fort Lawn, South Carolina; Concord, North Carolina.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia Dare Parsons, brother Jim Parsons, and a brother-in-law Jack Helms.

Colleen is survived by her two children; Charles Edward Helms and wife Debbie Ackerman of Lancaster, South Carolina; Pamela Sue Helms and fiance Jimmie Eanes Jr of Cleburne, Texas. She is survived by her very special Granddaughters, who gave of their time and love to spend with their Grandmother at the end of her life; Kristy Stevens and her husband Jason; Mandy Helms and Mitchell Magnum all of Lancaster, South Carolina. Colleen has a Granddaughter in Hartsville, South Carolina Donna Faye Wiggins, and her husband Lawton, and a Granddaughter in Florence, South Carolina Stephanie Marie Blackwell Brown. She has four Great Grandchildren, Allison Blair Hill of Camden, South Carolina; Kara Alexis Helms; Jase Buddy Stevens; Trevan Drake Helms all of Lancaster, South Carolina.

She is also preceded in death by her beloved dog, "Baby" and is survived by her loving cat, "Abby".

Colleen has two living sisters; Dagney Parsons Helms and her husband the late Jack Helms; Agatha Parsons Overcash and her husband Tommy. She has a living brother Steve Parsons and his wife Janet. She has a dear sister-in-law Rose Parsons and her husband was the late Jim Parsons. She has numerous nieces and nephews, with grandnieces and grandnephews.

Colleen was a very self-sufficient woman for over 48 years. She had a nice apartment in Camilla Hills and maintained her own vehicle until the age of 85. She had her own salon business for many years and worked as a cosmetologist with the nursing home and the elderly until she was 80. Colleen retired in 1997 from the nursing staff at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in North Carolina.

Colleen was an accomplished painter with a mural at CPCC in Charlotte, North Carolina. She had become very savvy with her computer and loved her social media. She also was an avid antique buff and loved to sew, crochet, and interior design. She also had a marvelous green thumb and could grow most anything. She was a great animal lover and often rescued animals from the streets.

Colleen's relationship with Jesus was always at the forefront of her life. She was a devoted Christian and was always looking for a way to spread the good news of Christ.

Colleen was a member of Fort Lawn Baptist Church for over 25 years, where visiting preachers and speakers would always ask for her Cornish Hens and wild rice and her wonderful banana pudding. Colleen was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Concord, North Carolina for almost 40 years. Colleen received her pastorship in 2008 and she often has ministered to the residents of the community.

Colleen's family would like to thank all the fine Doctors, Nurses, and staff at the Atrium Health in Concord, North Carolina; Cleveland Pines Nursing Home in Shelby, North Carolina; Hospice of Cleveland County in Shelby, North Carolina for the wonderful care they gave her throughout her illness.

Services will be held at a later date.
