Mr. Conway Hayes, 93, of N. Chapel Street, Landis, died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Five Oaks Manor in Concord. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Robert Earnhardt will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. Born February 16, 1914 in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Jim "Bud" Hayes and Katie Gaskey Hayes. He retired several years ago as a foreman in the machine shop of Cannon Mills, Plant No. 1. Mr. Hayes was a US Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Edna Virginia Hayes and Ruby Scarborough Hayes; a daughter, Phyllis Ann Ledbetter; son, Jerry Raymond Hayes; and two sisters, Iva Hardin and Mary Alice Dean. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Jorene Dixon of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, Joe Dixon, Jerry R. Hayes, Jr., Cindy Long, Connie Burton and Michael Hayes; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
