Mr. Deral Lane Byrd, Sr., 74, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at his home in Supply, NC.
A funeral service is scheduled for 12:00 pm Monday, March 9, 2026, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Rex Ware will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:45 am Monday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Deral was born September 4, 1951 in Cabarrus County. He was the son of the late Ralph Theodore Byrd and Leomar Jacobs Byrd. In his earlier years, Deral worked at Plant One of Cannon Mills, where he served as a supervisor and was known for his strong work ethic and leadership. He later continued his career with Schneider National in Charlotte as a truck driver, where he eventually retired. During his time on the road, Deral achieved the remarkable distinction of being a Million Mile Safety Driver, a testament to his dedication, skill, and commitment to doing things the right way.
In his spare time, Deral enjoyed “piddling” in his shop, happily staying busy working on lawn mowers, tinkering with car engines, and doing paint and body work on vehicles. He also found great enjoyment in fishing, spending peaceful moments by the water whenever he had the chance.
Deral is survived by his wife, Shirley Hancock Byrd; two sons, Deral Byrd, Jr., (Misty Dawn) and Adam Byrd, both of Kannapolis; sister, Sandra B. Delevie of Concord; and a granddaughter, Hannah Grace Byrd.
