Donald Ross Castor, Jr., 71, of Concord, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home at 75 1st Street on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 17, 1954 at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in Concord, Don was a lifelong resident of the area. He grew up in Kannapolis, where he was active in the Boy Scouts and played football throughout middle and high school. From a young age, Don showed a strong work ethic—he began working at Cannon Mills at just 16 years old and also drove a school bus while still in school. He later started his career in residential plumbing and went on to found Castor Plumbing Co., which grew into a successful commercial plumbing business.
Don had a lifelong passion for aviation and proudly earned his private pilot’s license in 1984. He was happiest in the sky, or learning the latest in technology—always curious and ahead of his time. He proudly implemented one of the first computer estimating systems in his plumbing business, combining his love of innovation with his dedication to craftsmanship.
He is survived by his twin daughters, Adriana Bain and Alicia Jones; his beloved grandchildren, Olivia Jones, Nolan Bain, Pete Jones, Andrew Bain, Mia Bain, Samantha Jones, Holland Jones, and Maggie Jones; his sister, Ann Wayne; and his brother, Tim Castor. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Ross Castor, Sr. and Shirley Petty Castor.
A receiving of friends will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 2:30 - 3:45 pm at Lady's Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 4:00 pm at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the incredible nurses from Adoration Home Health, whose care and friendship brought great comfort to Don, and to the compassionate hospice team who supported him in his final days.
