Dorothy Jean Blackwelder

April 17, 1935 — May 3, 2014

Mrs. Dorothy Jean “Mutt” Donahue Blackwelder, 79, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Lakewood Baptist Church. Pastor Scott Faw and Pastor Mitch Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Monday, May 5, 2014, at Lady’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blackwelder was born on April 17, 1935 in Rowan County. She was a daughter of the late James Berlie Donahue and Hattie Mae Webster Donahue. She worked as an overedger in the wash cloth department of Cannon Mills. Mrs. Blackwelder was a lifetime member of Lakewood Baptist Church and served on the homecoming committee for a number of years and a former choir member.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Brown Blackwelder; and brother, James Leroy Donahue.

Mrs. Blackwelder is survived by her two daughters, Debra B. Brown of Kannapolis and Lisa B. Hudson and husband Marvin of China Grove; sister, Shirley D. Shirley of Kannapolis; sister-in-law, Christine Donahue of China Grove; four grandchildren, Ashley England and husband Jason, Colby Brown, Macie Hudson and Morgan Hudson; two great grandchildren, Riley Brown and Logan England; four nephews and one niece; and three special friends, Eulane Hamm, Linda Merklein and Joyce Gulledge.
