Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Dean Nelms Lumsden, 99, formerly of Kannapolis passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at The Cottages at Brushy Creek Rehab & Healthcare Center in Greer, SC.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 pm Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis, NC. Dr. Tom Cabaniss will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 pm Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.

Ms. Lumsden was born September 17, 1917 in Madison County, GA. She was a daughter of the late Charlie M. Dean and Mary Stevens Dean. She graduated from Danieslville High School in Danielsville, GA. She retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 on June 16, 1983 where she worked in the Finishing Department as a towel hemmer. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Alexander “Zan” Nelms and her second husband, John Herman Lumsden; daughter, Nancy Nelms Kapoor; son, William Harold Nelms; step-daughter, Gayle Waugh; brothers Eugene "Gene", Candler, and Brunner Dean; and sisters, Mary Lou Fowler, Ruth Crooke, Martha Phillips and Callie Dotson.

Ms. Lumsden is survived by brother, Raymond Dean and wife Carmel of Blairsville, GA; three grandchildren, Kristopher Nath Kapoor, Jennifer Nelms Cubitt and William Anderson “Andy” Nelms; three step-grandchildren, Kim Gravlee, Becky Waugh and Mark Waugh; five great grandchildren, Nath Kapoor, Margo Kapoor, Maggie Cubitt, Will Cubitt and Fisher Nelms.

Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
