Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Inez Carter Williams, 92, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016, at Caremoor Retirement Center in Kannapolis.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Darryl Evans and Rev. Farrar Griggs will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 am Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Williams was born September 3, 1924 in Kannapolis. She was a daughter of the late Edward Lee Carter and Thelma Hargett Carter. She was a graduate of J. W. Cannon High School. She worked for Cannon Mills in the washcloth department of Plant 1 before being promoted to the transportation department, where she spent her last 15 years before retirement. In 1961, she was the first director of “The Last Supper” that is performed live every four years at First Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, August Henry Williams in 2001; a sister, Patricia Jenkins; and two brothers, Edward Lee Carter, Jr. and James Carter.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her son, Mike Williams and wife Lacy of Kannapolis; sister, Clara Petty of Landis; brother, Rev. Charles Carter and wife Janice of Winston Salem; two grandchildren, Christy Estees and husband Jim Wasilla, AK and Chance Williams and wife Jennifer of Kannapolis; and three great grandchildren, August Williams, Lincoln Williams and Jaycee Estees.
