Edgar Willis Barnette

Edgar Willis "Bill" Barnette, 86, of 203 N. East Avenue, Kannapolis, died Saturday, September 6, 2008, at The Hospice House of Cabarrus County. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ralph Robinette will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 pm Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mr. Barnette. Born March 1, 1922 in Alexander County, Mr. Barnette was the son of the late Ed Barnette and Nora Vandora Baker Barnette. He retired from the weave room of Cannon Mills. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Rebecca Barnette; a sister, Lillian Scarboro; and three brothers, Max Barnette, Leroy Barnette, and Giggs Barnette. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Stallings Barnette; two daughters, Patsy Barnhardt and husband, Rick, of Huntersville, Louann Gilreath and husband, Greg, of Charlotte; two step-daughters, Debbie Walters of Landis, Bena Sue Ridenhour and husband, Larry, of China Grove; six step-sons, Stacy Barnette and wife, Lynn, of Landis, Lynn Barnette of Rockwell, Eddie Barnette and Timothy Barnette, both of China Grove, Danny Barnette of Locust, and Toby Barnette of Kannapolis; three sisters, Cecil Walker and Helen Morris, both of Kannapolis and Hazel Bradshaw of Hiddenite; one brother, Nook Barnette of Kannapolis; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and a close friend of the family, Troy Murdock of Kannapolis. Memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
