Mrs. Edna Kerley Ballard, 92, of Kannapolis, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, following several years of declining health.
The funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 pm Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Rev. Max Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 pm Wednesday at the church.
Edna was born in Alexander County to the late Harland and Grace Laws Kerley on June 1, 1920. Edna worked as a weaver for Cannon Mills for 50 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and going to the beach. She was also actively involved in taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Ballard, to whom she was married to for 50 years.
Edna is survived by a son, Bradford Ballard and a daughter Delores Hall, both of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Loree Long of Kannapolis, Bryon Ballard of Mocksville, Crystal Clark and husband Tony of Landis and Brad Ballard of Kannapolis. She has five great grandchildren, Catherine Whitney Long and her fiancé Stuart Smith of St. Thomas, USVI, Katelyn Ballard of Kannapolis, Cyndale and Arey Clark of Landis, and Bryanna Ballard of Gold Hill; two sisters, Mattie Dancy of Concord and Betty Beaver of Kannapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Calvary Baptist Church, 703 Buick Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
