Mrs. Effie Friday Hollar, 100, a resident of Big Elm Nursing Center, and formerly of Laundry Street, Kannapolis, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the nursing center. Born September 26, 1909 in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late James Friday and Julie Huffstetler Friday. She retired several years ago from the Weave Room of Cannon Mills Plant No. 4. Mrs. Hollar was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Home Bound Ministries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lee Hollar; and a son, Billy Marian Hollar. Survivors include a son, Bobby H. Hollar and wife, Mary, of Kannapolis; three daughters, Phyllis H. Pennell and husband, Walter, of Mooresville, Barbara H. Gillis of Fayetteville, Faye H. Anderson and husband, Tommy, of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tom Cabaniss will officiate. Interment will follow at the Kannapolis Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of a daughter, Faye Anderson, 910 King Avenue, Kannapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 101 N. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
