Mrs. Elizabeth Armistead Hightower, 97, of Concord, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 peacefully at home in the care of her daughter, Georgianne Jenkins; son-in-law, Harold Jenkins and grandson, Tom Cato.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord. Dr. Glenn Myers, Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Mrs. Hightower was born on March 18, 1915 in Montgomery, AL. She was the youngest of ten children of Robert Stanton Armistead and Georgia Olivia Reid Armistead. "Lear" was a member of several churches including Epworth UMC in Concord, First Presbyterian in Concord and Dunnellon Presbyterian Church in Florida. She was a member of church circles, moderator for the Presbyterian women, Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher for many years. �Lear� was an avid golfer and bridge player and was a member of the DAR. She was dearly loved by her family and will be missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years in 1992, John Peach Hightower, Sr.
In addition to her daughter, Georgianne H. Jenkins and husband Harold of Concord, she is survived by her son, John Peach Hightower, Jr. of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren, John Carson Cato and wife Mary Margaret of Cornelius, Thomas Edgar Cato of Rock Hill, SC, James Mark Cato and wife Beth of Ocala, FL, Charlotte Lynne Cato and husband Dave of Berlin, NJ, Philip Hightower of Tuscaloosa, AL and John P. Hightower, III and wife Bettina of Richmond, VA; nine great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
