Mr. Elmer Eugene “Gene” Barringer, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 12, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Roper officiating. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, with Masonic graveside rites.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Lady’s Funeral Home.

Gene was born on September 12, 1941, in China Grove, North Carolina. He was the son of the late William Elmer Barringer and Floe Ella Hart Barringer Long. He retired from Cannon Mills, where he served as a supervisor in the fabric printing department.

Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be remembered by his family and loved ones for the life he lived and the memories they shared with him.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Hill and his son, Alfred Worton.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Margie Smith Barringer; his daughter, Debbie Barnes, and her husband, Dennis, of Kannapolis; his daughter, Regina Mullen, and her husband, Gilly, of Tennessee; and his daughter-in-law, Julie Worton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Seth, Amber, Emma, Maxie, Mickey, Michael, Rachel, and Mable; and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his family legacy.

Gene will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
