Elsie Bumgarner Herman

Elsie Bumgarner Herman, 89, of West 21st Street, Kannapolis, died peacefully Sunday, Oct.19, 2008, at Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. The Rev. Keith Kannenberg and the Rev. Roger Head will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church. At other times, they will be at the home of her son, Mike Herman, 212 S. East Avenue, Kannapolis. Born February 11, 1919 in Alexander County, she was the daughter of the late John Miller Bumgarner and Grace Burgess Bumgarner. She retired several years ago from Cannon Mills. She was a member of Blackwelder Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam L. Herman; four sisters, Stella Kerley, Ollie Dwiggins, Nell Burke and Hazel Reese; and a brother, Clyde Bumgarner. Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Boger and husband Jerry of Rockwell; one son, Mike Herman, Sr. and wife, Becky of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Alisa Rogers and husband Chris, Mike Herman, Jr. and friend Kelli Kent, Amy Boger and friend Reece Ridenhour; a great-grandchild, Shelley Rogers; and a special niece, Nancy Wilson. Memorials may be sent to Blackwelder Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2204 Summit Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
