Elva Bowman Whitaker's Obituary
Mrs. Elva Bowman Whitaker, 92, of Grenora,ND, and formerly of Kannapolis, NC, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston, ND.
Funeral services for Mrs. Whitaker will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2002 in Lady's Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Joseph Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
Mrs. Whitaker was born in Randolph County, Alabama, a daughter of the late J.W.Bowman and Lucinda Ballard Bowman, she retired from the sheet department of Cannon Mills plant one in Kannapolis in 1981 after 54 years of employment. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kannapolis where she was in the Anna Bible Class. She was also a member of the Clarice Women's Club and enjoyed working in her yard and flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Whitaker in 1961 and also seven sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Claudine Whitaker Larson and Marie Whitaker VanMeter, both of Grenora, ND; a grandson, Jim VanMeter of Davis, California; and a number of nieces and nephews.
