Erline Collins Harkey

Mary Erline Collins Harkey, a special mother and beloved grandmother, died Monday, September 11, 2006, at Five Oaks Nursing Center. Mrs. Harkey, age 91, was born in Valdosta, Ga. on March 8, 1915. She was a daughter of the late Joby Reese Collins and Corra May Collins Roseman. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Harkey loved working with people during many years in retail sales, and she later worked at plant four of Cannon Mills. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and an avid bingo player. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at Carolina Memorial Park with the Rev. Charles Efird officiating . The family will receive friends at Lady's Funeral Home from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Idell Gilliam, and two brothers, Eldridge Collins and Carlton Collins. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Cagle and husband Paul; four grandchildren, Ron Darling and wife Lynn, Stephen Darling and wife, Casey, Angie Clark and husband, William, and John Cagle. Also, she has five great-grandchildren, Cierra Darling, Amelia Darling, Nicholas Darling, Gabrielle Clark and Tyler Clark; and a number of nieces and nephews, Carey Beaube and husband Robert, Gloria Esthus, Allen Collins and wife, Kathrine, Max Collins, Gail Etchinson, Shirley Cooke and husband Doug, and Marlene Beaver. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Five Oaks Nursing Center and those who helped from Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
