Ethel Bonds Roach

Mrs. Ethel Bonds Roach, 92, passed away at The Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House on May 10, 2009, after a short and unexpected illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 2:00 pm in Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim McQueen will officiate. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2:00 pm Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home. Born in Franklin County, Georgia on April 17, 1917, she was a daughter of the late James Dean Bond and Lela Crowe Bond, she moved with her family to Kannapolis in 1925. In 1935, she married Floyd G. Roach and they shared their lives together until his death in 1997. During WWII, she worked at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore, MD. After the war, she returned to Kannapolis with her husband and devoted the next 60 plus years to being a homemaker and mother, sometimes working part-time at Midway Florist and Bitsy Bakery. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd G. Roach; daughter, Cynthia Kay Roach; two brothers, Coil Bonds and Dole Bonds; three sisters, Stella B. Sharron, Etta B. Lundsford and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bonds. She is survived by her son, Douglas Roach; daughter-in-law, Jill G. Roach; two grandchildren, Holly Coward and Brian Roach; six great grandchildren, Austin, Avery and Jackson Coward, Mackenzie, Isabelle and Garrett Roach, all of Kannapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Memorial Baptist Church, 1785 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083 or to The Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
