Ethel Mae Rogers Sechler

Mrs. Ethel Mae Rogers Sechler, 75, of 542 Eastway Drive, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012, at The Oaks at Town Center in Harrisburg. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Centerview Baptist Church. Rev. Willie Rash will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. The body will lie in-state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service on Tuesday. At other times, the family will be at her residence. Mr. Sechler was born April 9, 1936 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late John Houston Rogers and Ruby Perkins Rogers Jones. She retired from the former Kannapolis Daily Independent where she was the obituary writer for the paper and became known as "the obit lady". She was a member of Centerview Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Don"/"Sonny" Lee Sechler; and her sister, Katherine Ann Rogers Ohmes. Mrs. Sechler is survived her son, Donald Scott Sechler and wife Pamela of Concord; grandson, Jake Sechler and wife Mary of Kannapolis; two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Jackson; three special nieces, Tammy Lambert of Concord, Diane Fecio of Simpsonville, SC and Hillary Mansfield of Kannapolis; and many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent the Centerview Baptist Church Building Fund, 415 Walter Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
