Mrs. Mary Ethel Tucker Staton 94, formerly of Easy Street, went home to be with Jesus, Monday August 28, 2006 at the Brian Center of Concord, following 10 years of declining health. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2006, at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Max Smith, the Rev. Darrell Coble and the Rev. Stanley Spence will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:15 p.m. Thursday prior to the service. At other times they will make headquarters at the home of her son, Joe Staton, 140 Greenview Drive. Mrs. Staton was born in Anson County, on January 5, 1912, a daughter of George Lester Tucker and Lillie Mae Gulledge Tucker. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church. She formerly worked at Plant One of Cannon Mills. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Forney Evan Staton in 1982 and a sister Esther Koontz and her husband Liberty Koontz. Survivors include a son, Joe Staton and wife Linda Hancock Staton of Kannapolis; two daughters, Barbara Slop and husband Fred, of Concord, and Iris Jean Matthews, of Concord. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Gene Whittle, Janet Readling, Sherry Cochran, Scott Sloop, Leslie Henderson, Marsha Liles Kendal Koontz and Denise Wilson; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
