Mrs. Eula Carter Benfield, 93, 2122 Bertha St., Kannapolis, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord after two months of declining health. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove. The Rev. Eric Burris and the Rev. Gary Posey will officiate. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home on Bertha Street. Born Aug. 7, 1910, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Marshall Monroe Carter and Lilly Coffey Carter. Mrs. Benfield retired from the spinning room of Cannon Mills Plant 1 in 1971. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Sellers; a stepdaughter, Janet Foster; three brothers, Perry Carter, Jess Carter and Arthur Carter; and two sisters, Lizzie Correll and Sarah Myers. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Benfield Coxey, with whom she made her home; two stepsons, Fred Benfield, Texas, and Jimmy Benfield, Asheville; three stepdaughters, Joyce Measimer, Concord, Donnell Joyner, Salisbury, and Irene Crowe, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Rosa Foster of Landis; 22 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
