Evelyn Auten James

Mrs. Evelyn Auten James, 90, of 406 Triece Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, January 20, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Memorial Baptist Church. The Rev. Tim McQueen and the Rev. Don Davis will officiate. Entombment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2008, at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence. Born July 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Banks Auten and Mattie Elizabeth Auten. She retired several years ago from the weave room of Cannon Mills, Plant No. 4 in Kannapolis, Following her retirement, she volunteered 15 years at NorthEast Medical Center, now CMC-Northeast. Mrs. James was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where she was active in the Senior Saints Group. Her husband, Jesse Lee James, preceded her in death on April 4, 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Mildred "Jo" Walter of Kannapolis; two granddaughters, Robbin Barringer and husband David, of Kannapolis, Patty Starnes and husband, Doug, of Cornelius; and three great-grandchildren, Seth Starnes, Jake Starnes and Jessica Barringer. Memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or Memorial Baptist Church, 1785 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083. The family expresses a special "Thank You" to Dr. Victor Vargas at Cabarrus Family Medicine, for the care and compassion shown to them during this difficult time.
